Google reveals smart contact lens

Google reveals smart contact lens

Google have introduce a new eye lenses, uses a minuscule glucose sensor and a wireless transmitter to help those among the world’s 382 million diabetics, people who need insulin inside their body. As they need this inside their blood and sugar. Google say they’ll take up to five years to design it and give it to the consumers.  The lenses contain two twinkling glitter specks that’s are loaded with tens of thousand of miniaturised transistors. This is one of the designs by huge companies to make glucose monitoring for diabetic patients more convenient.

  • “We’re testing a smart contact lens that we built that measures the glucose levels in tears using a tiny wireless chip and a miniaturised glucose sensor,” explained the Google X project leader for the smart contact lens, Brian Otis.
  • “We’ve had to work really hard to develop tiny, low-powered electronics that operate on low levels of energy and really small glucose sensors,” Mr Otis said at Google’s Silicon Valley headquarters.

I think that Google want to do something very good for diabetic people, who are ill and losing their eye sight, as this might million of people in the future, but people will have to wait for five years for this to happens, so other company might to the same and copy the idea and try and produce it before goggle does it in the future, which might be a negative factor for the business.

BBC targets social media users with Instagram video news

BBC targets social media users with Instagram video news

BBC news mobile consumption overtakes desktop

BBC News has now created insafax; it’s a new short from video new service, which has been created for the new audience on the social media platform who use the mobile and social networking sites, Instagram. On January 16, BBC has created this in order to show the news to a new audience who don’t they the news show on this sites and this platform. As this is a month long term experiment, as it features three 15-second video are uploaded every day, also a headline serve of the main events, which has happened on the day. On this site, people can give feedback and say whatever they want on this site. As the BBC want this to be a success as they want to target a new platform of people who use this sites like instagram and Facebook.
  • "We want the process to be organic, and we're keen to trial new ideas on how we can use our video content to reach new audiences," Herrmann said
  • Instafax viewers are being encouraged to comment and give feedback. So far it has had mixed reactions ranging from "Instafax is a game changer" to "worst idea ever"
  • James Harding has been clear in his vision to find innovative ways to bring the best of our journalism to new audiences, something our team has been looking at for some time."

I think that it’s a creative and good way of producing the news on these sites, as they want to target younger people to show and use their service, as they want younger people to have the knowledge of everything in the world. As it a very good way of give young people a chance of using and read the news more. As young people are more likely to use this site and watch these videos, as they are fast and quick and get to the point very fast.

News Corp has singed a 30 year lease for its new London headquarters at the London Bridge.it is due to move all their business to this new place, as it is a 17 store building nicknamed the baby shard, which is right next to the shard. New Corp/News UK publish The Times, Sunday Times and The Sun. Dow Jones and HarperCollins Books at the south bank in London will join As New Corp. ‘the company says this decision signifies its "long-term commitment to London and the UK." 3,500 News Corp employees will be moving into the new building by the summer.

News UK's chief executive, Mike Darcey, said: "There can be no clearer signal of our determination to secure a sustainable future for the world-class journalism we produce… This is a commitment by our company to London and the UK for the next three decades."
I think it’s a great idea having your headquarters in the heart of London, as it the capital of England and many thing will happen over the years, as a business it is highly important for their business because information and News can travel even faster into the heart of London, as it will be a lot faster to produce this information and news for these newspapers, so it a lot more better having the headquarter in London, as the business can produce and release the news quicker and better.

BBC Tablets

The BBC has improved and become more successful over the Christmas holidays via the tablets and their website BBC IPlayer. The reason why is because the increase of sales for the tablets over the Christmas period. As BBC viewing from the tablets reached and hit a landmark in 2013, going over many devices like the laptop and the desktop computer for the first ever time. As the uses of tablet was highly popular and important for the users, as it was quicker and better to watch show on the BBC IPlayer within the Christmas period in 2013. The BBC saw the increasing in sales of the tablet. Dan Taylor, head of the BBC IPlayer, said that tablet usage overtook viewing on computers as the most popular way to access the IPlayer from Boxing Day through to 30 December. On Boxing Day there were 2.2 million requests from the tablets users, however, on the computer they only had 2.1 million requests. Moreover, there were requests from mobile smartphones users as well, as it went to 1.6 requests. On New years day, it was the best day for BBC IPlayer, with 11 million people downloading programmes from the website.
·      On Boxing Day there were 2.2m IPlayer requests from tablets, compared to 2.1m from computers.
·      Requests from mobile devices such as smartphones also rose significantly on Boxing Day, however at just under 1.6m they remained some way below tablets and computers.
·      By New Year's Eve, tablet requests had dropped back to 1.93m, just a fraction behind computer requests at 1.95m.
·      New Year's Day was the iPlayer's best-ever day, with nearly 11m programme requests, as computers (2.91m viewing requests) stayed ahead of tablets (2.65m).
I think that BBC have use the new top technology equipment best to their uses, and used it in order to help their business grow and improve, as in the time of Christmas, all people want to do is watch the show they missed due to the time period, as not a lot of people are at home and away from their television, so instead of people wait for it to come back on television and watch it at their desktops as it boring, it better for them to watch it from a tablet, as it portable to hold and the viewer can watch it anywhere.
