The rise and rise of UGC

  1. What is meant by the term ‘citizen journalist’?
  2. What was one of the first examples of news being generated by ‘ordinary people’?
  3. List some of the formats for participation that are now offered by news organisations.
  4. What is one of the main differences between professionally shot footage and that taken first-hand (UGC)?
  5. What is a gatekeeper?
  6. How has the role of a gatekeeper changed?
  7. What is one of the primary concerns held by journalists over the rise of UGC?
1. Citizen journalist means that when ordinary people generate news because of the improved technology over the year, people are becoming citizen journalists, people are distributing news videos on the internet for people. As this women is saying that anyone in the society we are living in now can be a journalist.

2. The first example of news being generated by ordinary people was the Rodney king incident. As a Black man was beaten up by four police office, as they thought he was under the influence of drugs, as this guy run from the police offices as when he was caught the man was beaten by the police and was hit 53 times with the police's stick. this was caught on tape by a person who was on the same street when this happened.

3. Some of the format participation are: message boards, chat rooms, blogs with comments embedded on them, and Q&A. some of the biggest social networking site which contain this is Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Myspace.

4. The difference between professional shot footage and first hand shot footage, is that the professional footage is often more hard hitting and emotive. free hand create such a understanding of realism of the footage and show the audience how nature the shot is, having a professional shot it exclude the main idea of realism to the audience and viewers.

5. Gatekeeper are the people who decide what is the news or not, if this information is right for the audience, would they understand and how this would effect them in the future and present, as they have the control of the news in this society.

6. The role of the gate keeper has changed as many people have a chance to write and comment on anything they feel is news, as before many people didn't want to say anything in society, but  now people feel that  people say and write anything in society to create news.as thesis will attract and stand out to such a mass audience in society.

Thorsten Heins

Thorsten Heins, chief executive of Blackberry has sold his mobile phone business to Microsoft for (£4.5bn) this month, as many people are saying that is this the end for blackberry business and there services, as to how long BlackBerry, as this week the business lost 620m pounds of their withdrawn of the z10 which was meant to release in January, also the business lost 250m pounds due to their net loss.as blackberry were expecting to make 1.6bn pounds his season for their phones and service, but now IPhone will make this profit due to the new phones they just released on Friday.
On Friday, the company said it would cut 4,500 jobs, roughly 40% of its 11,000 total worldwide, adding to 7,000 jobs cut in the two previous financial years. It will reduce its future phone portfolio from six to four.
This weekend was meant to be a new start for the company, with an attempt to turn back the clock to when it was the star of the tech world by offering its famous BlackBerry Messenger (BBM) software free for iPhones and Android phones. But rivals such as WhatsApp are already on both, with more users,
I think that Thorsten Heins has made the right move for his business, himself and society as many people have moved off blackberry's service and move to apple's IPhones, as society and people have changed, as many people are following in other people footstep to use and buy the latest things.

Galaxy Gear

smartwatch time

http://www.theguardian.com/technology

·      Galaxy Gear "smart watch"
·      There will be ads everywhere
·      Maybe they'll be right, but perhaps watches now are like MP3 players before the iPod or portable stereos before the Walkman.
·      Now, for instance, smart watches are imagined as tiny smartphones stuck on our wrists, but the genius of the Walkman wasn't just about miniaturization
·      Maybe smart watch games will fill the even smaller gaps while we're waiting by the photocopier.

i think that technological is moving fast and quickly, as many people can communicate very fast,as this is a watch where it tell the person every thing like the weather, temperature and more.
